The Sacred Lotus

The Sacred Lotus
Premium Hospital in a Resort Setting | Healing & Wellness Property
India / Kerala / Fort Kochi - Beach | City

The Sacred Lotus was conceived to offer an authentic Ayurvedic experience near Kochi, set against the colonial heritage of Fort Kochi. The name Sacred Lotus symbolises Sahasrara, the seventh and highest Chakra in Yoga philosophy, representing the ultimate stage of Kundalini awakening, where one discovers the exalted Self and experiences oneness with the whole. True to this symbolism, The Sacred Lotus seeks to inspire individuals through authentic services and therapies, guiding them towards rediscovering their healthy Self and embracing its deeper significance in life. Drawing from the nurturing embrace of mud, the resilience of water, the warmth of sunlight, and the wisdom of Ayurveda, The Sacred Lotus blossomed into existence as a collaborative initiative between RAVE Hospitality and Aarshaveda Wellness Private Limited. RAVE Hospitality, founded by Ramachandran Malayattil, Rakesh Maliakal, Abdul Rahim, and Parvathy Mohan, brings extensive experience in hospitality, medical tourism, and education across India and overseas. Aarshaveda Wellness, a third-generation venture, is dedicated to authentic Ayurvedic and organic products, while also pioneering innovative, user-friendly Ayurvedic solutions. Their diverse portfolio encompasses manufacturing, domestic and export retail, private labelling, product development, and resort management consulting. The legacy of Aarshaveda Wellness is carried forward by Venkatesh Anilkumar, Managing Director, who descends from a lineage of eminent Ayurvedic practitioners. His grandfather, Dr K G K Panicker, was the visionary founder of Kerala Ayurveda Pharmacy Limited (KAPL) and a driving force behind the formation of the Kerala Ayurveda Mandalam in the early 1900s. Having grown up deeply influenced by this heritage, Venkatesh embraced Ayurveda as a way of life. He contributed seven years to Kerala Ayurveda Ltd, overseeing the renowned Ayurvedagram wellness resort and clinics in Bangalore, Chennai, and Hyderabad, before founding Aarshaveda Wellness in 2015 at Aluva, Kerala.

Guests are invited to indulge in a holistic journey, where every bite becomes a step towards rejuvenation, balance, and overall well-being.

Guests at The Sacred Lotus can embark on curated heritage and cultural walks through Fort Kochi, a destination steeped in history and old-world charm. These guided explorations lead to iconic landmarks such as the Chinese Fishing Nets, St. Francis Church, Dutch Cemetery, Old Lighthouse, and the grand Santa Cruz Basilica.

Each site unveils fascinating stories of the Portuguese, Dutch, British, Jewish, and Chinese influences, reflecting the diverse cultural legacy that has shaped Fort Kochi.

Beyond its architecture, the experience opens doors to local art, cuisine, and lifestyle, offering a seamless blend of tradition and modernity. These walks provide an immersive cultural journey, allowing guests to truly connect with the spirit of Fort Kochi – a living testimony to both its storied past and vibrant present.

At The Sacred Lotus, Ayurvedic healing is a deeply immersive journey into physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Each consultation begins with a detailed assessment of the individual’s unique energetic constitution (Prakriti), based on the three Doshas – Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. This helps identify body type, current imbalances, and areas requiring healing. Skilled physicians then design a personalised treatment plan, including tailored therapies, diet, and lifestyle recommendations. The goal is to restore equilibrium, vitality, and inner tranquillity, creating a holistic sense of wellness.

At the heart of this approach lies the Ayurvedic philosophy of harmony with nature’s rhythms. Guests receive not only personalised treatments but also practical guidance on diet, daily routine, and lifestyle—supporting long-term well-being even beyond their stay.

The Ayurveda Centre comprises a total of 2 units, thoughtfully designed to facilitate personalised therapies and holistic healing experiences.

Complementing Ayurveda, The Sacred Lotus honours the ancient discipline of Hatha Yoga, a practice that harmonises body, mind, and spirit. Here, Yoga is practised in its purest form, not merely as exercise but as a pathway to restore health and elevate consciousness towards Sat-Chit (eternal bliss), the ultimate goal of Yoga.

The centre also offers meditation practices inspired by Indian traditions, adapted to meet modern needs. Guided sessions include relaxation and awareness techniques, helping guests release tension, rejuvenate the body-mind system, and foster deep spiritual tranquillity.

Rooted in the wisdom of the Vedas, Ayurveda is recognised as the Upaveda of Atharva Veda, regarded as the Science of Harmony. It upholds the principle that disease arises from imbalance, and true healing lies in restoring the delicate balance of mind, body, and spirit.

Soundarya Vardhini (Beauty Care)

This approach to beauty transcends mere cosmetic enhancement; it's about nurturing the body, mind, and soul in harmony with nature. Central to Ayurvedic beauty care is the belief that our external appearance is a reflection of our internal state of being. By understanding and balancing the three doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha—individual constitutions in Ayurveda, one can tailor beauty routines to address specific needs and imbalances. Ayurvedic beauty rituals encompass a wide array of practices, from herbal skincare treatments and oil massages to dietary recommendations and meditation techniques. Herbal ingredients like turmeric, neem, sandalwood, and amla are prized for their rejuvenating properties and are commonly used in Ayurvedic skincare preparations. Massage, known as Abhyanga, is a cornerstone of Ayurvedic beauty care. It not only nourishes the skin but also stimulates the body's vital energy, promoting relaxation and overall well-being. Similarly, Ayurvedic dietary guidelines emphasize the importance of consuming fresh, whole foods that are in harmony with one's constitution. Unlike many mainstream beauty products that may contain harsh chemicals, Ayurvedic beauty care emphasizes natural, plant-based ingredients that work synergistically with the body's own healing mechanisms. This approach not only enhances physical beauty but also fosters a deeper connection to oneself and the natural world. In essence, Ayurvedic beauty care offers a holistic path to radiant health and timeless beauty, celebrating the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit. By embracing the principles of Ayurveda, individuals can cultivate beauty that emanates from a place of balance, vitality, and inner harmony.

Stress Management

Central to Ayurveda is the concept of doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha—which represent individual constitutional types. By identifying one's unique doshic balance, Ayurvedic practitioners tailor treatments to restore equilibrium and alleviate stress. Herbal remedies play a prominent role in Ayurvedic stress management. Adaptogenic herbs like ashwagandha, brahmi, and tulsi are revered for their ability to modulate the body's stress response, promoting resilience and relaxation. These herbs are often prescribed in formulations known as rasayanas, which support overall well-being and vitality. Dietary modifications form another cornerstone of Ayurvedic stress management. Emphasizing whole, seasonal foods that align with one's dosha, Ayurveda recommends nourishing, easily digestible meals to support physical and mental balance. Additionally, incorporating spices like turmeric, ginger, and cumin can enhance digestion and reduce inflammation, which are closely linked to stress. Lifestyle adjustments are integral to Ayurvedic stress management. Practices such as yoga, pranayama (breathing exercises), and meditation are prescribed to calm the mind, cultivate awareness, and release tension stored in the body. Daily routines, known as dinacharya, help establish stability and consistency, fostering a sense of grounding amidst life's challenges. Furthermore, Ayurvedic therapies such as abhyanga (oil massage), shirodhara (warm oil poured over the forehead), and swedana (herbal steam therapy) offer profound relaxation and rejuvenation, promoting deep-seated stress relief. In essence, Ayurvedic treatment for stress management transcends symptom suppression to address the root causes of stress, guiding individuals towards a state of harmony and vitality. By integrating herbal remedies, dietary adjustments, lifestyle modifications, and therapeutic practices, Ayurveda offers a holistic path towards resilience, balance, and inner peace.

Panchakarma

A Panchakarma retreat is a deeply transformative Ayurvedic detox and healing program designed to eliminate accumulated toxins, restore internal balance, and rejuvenate the body and mind. Rooted in the ancient science of Ayurveda, Panchakarma meaning “five actions” is a medically guided process that works at a cellular level to remove toxins (Ama), strengthen digestion (Agni) and balance the three doshas: Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Unlike modern detox programs or wellness retreats that focus only on relaxation, a Panchakarma retreat is a structured therapeutic process aimed at long-term health, disease prevention and complete physiological reset. In today’s fast-paced lifestyle, the body is constantly exposed to stress, processed foods, environmental pollutants and irregular routines. These factors weaken digestion and lead to the accumulation of Ama, a toxic byproduct that obstructs bodily channels and disrupts normal functioning. Over time, this imbalance manifests as fatigue, weight gain, poor digestion, hormonal issues, joint pain, skin disorders, and mental stress. A Panchakarma retreat addresses these root causes by mobilising and eliminating toxins from deep tissues, allowing the body to restore its natural intelligence and healing capacity. A traditional Panchakarma treatment follows a carefully structured three-stage process to ensure safety and effectiveness. The first stage, known as preparation (Purva Karma), involves therapies such as Snehana (internal and external oiling) and Swedana (herbal steam therapy), which help loosen and mobilise toxins from the tissues. The second stage, the main detox phase (Pradhana Karma), includes specialised treatments such as Virechana (therapeutic purgation), Basti (medicated enemas), Nasya (nasal detox), and in specific cases, Vamana or Raktamokshana. These therapies are selected based on individual diagnosis and are performed under the supervision of qualified Ayurvedic doctors. The final stage, rejuvenation (Paschat Karma), focuses on restoring strength, rebuilding immunity, and stabilising the body through herbal medicines, a specialised Ayurvedic diet, and lifestyle guidance. A Panchakarma retreat offers a wide range of benefits that go beyond physical detoxification. It improves digestion and metabolism, supports sustainable weight management, enhances immunity, reduces stress and anxiety, improves sleep quality, and promotes clearer skin and increased energy levels. One of the most profound effects of Panchakarma is its impact on mental clarity and emotional balance. As toxins are eliminated from the body, the nervous system becomes more stable, allowing the mind to shift from a state of stress to a state of calm and focus. Many individuals experience a deep sense of reset, both physically and mentally, after completing a Panchakarma program. When choosing a Panchakarma retreat, location plays a crucial role in the effectiveness of the treatment. A Panchakarma retreat in Kerala, India is widely considered the most authentic and effective option due to its strong Ayurvedic lineage, ideal tropical climate, and access to medicinal herbs. Kerala is home to highly trained BAMS-certified Ayurvedic doctors who follow classical treatment protocols, ensuring a medically accurate and personalised approach. The warm and humid climate of Kerala supports detoxification by opening the body’s channels, making treatments more effective compared to colder regions. For this reason, Kerala has become the global centre for authentic Panchakarma therapy. Across India, Panchakarma retreats are available in various formats, ranging from traditional Ayurvedic hospitals to luxury wellness resorts. While India offers a wide range of options, the quality and authenticity of treatment can vary significantly, making it important to choose centres that provide personalised care and medical supervision. A Panchakarma retreat in Sri Lanka offers a similar tropical environment and is emerging as a destination for Ayurvedic healing, often combining traditional therapies with a more relaxed retreat experience. Meanwhile, a Panchakarma retreat in Bali is popular for its scenic beauty and luxury wellness offerings, although treatments may be adapted and may not always follow classical Ayurvedic protocols as practised in India. A typical Panchakarma retreat includes an initial consultation with an Ayurvedic doctor, personalised treatment planning, daily therapies, herbal medications, and a specialised Ayurvedic diet designed to support detoxification. Many retreats also incorporate yoga, meditation, and lifestyle guidance to enhance overall well-being. The duration of a Panchakarma program can vary depending on individual health goals, with 7-day programs offering mild detox, 14-day programs providing moderate cleansing, and 21 to 28-day programs delivering deep detoxification and long-term healing benefits. For chronic conditions and deeper imbalances, longer programs are generally recommended. Choosing the right Panchakarma retreat is essential for achieving safe and effective results. A genuine retreat should offer qualified Ayurvedic doctors, personalised treatment protocols, daily medical supervision, authentic Panchakarma therapies, and a structured dietary plan. It is important to understand that Panchakarma is not a spa treatment or a relaxation package—it is a medical healing process rooted in Ayurvedic science. A Panchakarma retreat is ultimately an investment in long-term health and well-being. It is ideal for individuals seeking to address chronic health issues, improve digestion, reduce stress, enhance immunity, or simply reset the body and mind. By removing deep-rooted toxins and restoring balance, Panchakarma allows the body to function optimally and maintain a state of natural harmony. Whether you choose a Panchakarma retreat in Kerala, India, Sri Lanka, or Bali, the experience offers a powerful opportunity to reconnect with your health, restore vitality, and experience true holistic healing.

Weight Management

Central to Ayurvedic philosophy is the concept of doshas – Vata, Pitta, and Kapha – which represent different combinations of the five elements (earth, water, fire, air, and ether) present in each individual. According to Ayurveda, imbalances in these doshas can contribute to weight gain and other health issues. To address weight management concerns, Ayurveda advocates for personalized approaches tailored to an individual's unique constitution, or Prakriti. By identifying one's dominant dosha and understanding its influence on their physical and mental attributes, Ayurvedic practitioners can recommend specific dietary guidelines, lifestyle modifications, and herbal supplements to restore balance and support weight loss. Dietary adjustments in Ayurvedic weight management often involve incorporating whole, nutrient-dense foods that align with one's dosha. For example, those with a predominantly Kapha constitution may benefit from lighter, spicier foods to stimulate metabolism, while individuals with a Pitta imbalance might focus on cooling, hydrating foods to soothe inflammation and aid digestion. In addition to dietary changes, lifestyle modifications play a crucial role in Ayurvedic weight management. Practices such as mindful eating, regular exercise tailored to one's dosha, stress reduction techniques like yoga and meditation, and adequate sleep are emphasized to promote overall well-being and sustainable weight loss. Furthermore, Ayurvedic herbs and formulations are often utilized to support the body's natural detoxification processes, improve digestion, boost metabolism, and enhance energy levels. Commonly used herbs include triphala, guggul, ashwagandha, and turmeric, among others, each chosen for its specific properties and benefits in aiding weight management. Overall, Ayurvedic weight management offers a comprehensive and holistic approach to achieving a healthy weight and promoting overall wellness. By addressing the root causes of weight gain and restoring balance within the body, Ayurveda supports individuals in reaching their weight loss goals while nurturing their physical, mental, and spiritual health for long-term vitality and well-being.

Treatment For Back Pain

Central to Ayurveda is the concept of balance and harmony within the body, achieved through a combination of natural remedies, lifestyle adjustments, and therapeutic practices. Herbal remedies play a significant role in Ayurvedic treatment for back pain. Various herbs and botanicals with anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties are utilized to reduce swelling, alleviate muscle tension, and relieve pain. These may include substances such as ginger, turmeric, ashwagandha, and guggulu, which have been used for centuries to support musculoskeletal health and promote overall well-being. Dietary modifications are another essential aspect of Ayurvedic therapy for back pain. Recommendations typically involve consuming foods that possess anti-inflammatory properties while avoiding those that can contribute to inflammation and aggravate discomfort. Additionally, emphasis is placed on maintaining proper digestion and eliminating toxins from the body, as digestive health is closely linked to overall wellness in Ayurveda. Incorporating lifestyle adjustments is integral to the Ayurvedic approach to managing back pain. This may involve adopting correct posture habits, engaging in regular physical activity to strengthen the back muscles and improve flexibility, and implementing stress-reducing practices such as meditation and deep breathing exercises. By addressing the root cause of back pain through lifestyle modifications, Ayurveda aims to prevent future occurrences and promote long-term relief. Ayurvedic therapies offer a range of specialized treatments tailored to individuals experiencing back pain. These may include Panchakarma detoxification procedures to cleanse the body of accumulated toxins, as well as therapeutic massages using specific herbal oils to soothe sore muscles, improve circulation, and promote relaxation. Yoga and meditation are also commonly prescribed as part of Ayurvedic therapy, offering gentle yet effective methods to alleviate tension, restore balance, and enhance overall spinal health. In essence, Ayurvedic treatment for back pain provides a holistic and personalized approach that addresses the interconnectedness of the body, mind, and spirit. By restoring harmony within the individual, Ayurveda not only offers relief from back pain but also fosters a state of optimal health and well-being.

My experience at Sacred Lotus Retreat was truly wonderful and deeply healing. From the moment I arrived, I was embraced by a peaceful atmosphere that immediately made me feel at home. The retreat radiates serenity – surrounded by nature, it offers the perfect setting to relax, rejuvenate, and reconnect with yourself. The yoga sessions were beautifully guided, balancing strength and relaxation while creating a space for inner peace. The Ayurvedic treatments were authentic, personalized, and carried out with great care, leaving me refreshed and renewed in both body and mind. The retreat is impeccably maintained – every corner is clean, organized, and filled with positive energy. The staff are exceptional: warm, attentive, and genuinely dedicated to ensuring every guest feels comfortable and cared for. From the therapists to the kitchen team, everyone works with so much love and sincerity. What makes Sacred Lotus Retreat truly special is not just the treatments, but the heart behind them – the kindness of the people, the attention to detail, and the nurturing environment they create. I left with a lighter heart, a calmer mind, and a healthier body. I would highly recommend Sacred Lotus Retreat to anyone seeking true healing, relaxation, and an unforgettable wellness journey. ?✨

My Ayurveda Journey at Sacred Lotus Índia was just perfect! Had Dr. Manu guiding me with his great knowledge and sensibility, as well as Dr Anusree and dr Talwin being always attentive and kind. The architecture of the place is beautiful, an English house wirh beautiful gardens. Starting from my beautiful and comfortable room, nice bathroom, reading room with my favorite window and comfortable yoga room. Meals were served in a classy dining room, with healthy vegetable dishes, done specially for my sensitive stomach for spicy. Thanks to Bairam from housekeeping ? Yoga teacher Maya’s classes are a combination of yoga and Soundhealing with her great voice. Therapists Archana and Silpa are the best and took very good care of me, with twice a day treatments done in structured rooms and with a lot of experience. All team, with the leadership of smiley and always available Ananthu, were just great! I’m also very great full for the great care from Slatty, responsible for making guests feel at home and she can surely do that! I will be back. ?f

I had a wonderful stay at The Sacred Lotus. The atmosphere is peaceful and welcoming, making it the perfect place to relax and recharge. The room was cozy, the bathroom spacious, and everything was spotless—giving a real sense of comfort and calm. Breakfast was vegetarian and had a warm, homely touch, almost like being at my grandma’s house. I also tried an Ayurvedic therapy, which was both relaxing and insightful. It gave me a simple introduction to this ancient approach to natural healing and balance, and I left with a much better appreciation for Ayurveda. A big thanks to Ananthu for his warm hospitality and efforts in making our one-day stay extra comfortable. Overall, a short but truly memorable visit—I’d be happy to return!!

On the path to overcoming a midlife crisis, I decided to try Panchakarma — my first one. I was searching for the right place, especially considering some serious medical conditions. I needed a clinic that would treat me with utmost care and an individualized approach. I was almost ready to overpay at Kalari Rasayana when a good local friend recommended *The Sacred Lotus* in Fort Kochi. At first, I hesitated. The clinic is within the city limits, and although I really love Fort Kochi, coming from a big city like Moscow, I expected a retreat like this to be in a more natural, remote setting. But after the very first conversation with the doctor at The Sacred Lotus, my doubts began to fade. Unlike other places I’d considered — including Kalari, where the initial doctor call felt more like a formality — my consultation here was a true, attentive deep dive into my condition. I spoke with Dr. Manmohan for 2.5 hours. I felt seen, heard, and taken seriously. That’s when I decided: this was the place. And I was right. The three weeks I spent at The Sacred Lotus turned out to be truly sacred. It’s a small clinic, located in the center of old Kochi in a charming colonial-era Portuguese house with just eight rooms. I came during the off-season, and for most of the 21-day program, I was the only guest — which, of course, added a touch of luxury to the whole experience. At first, I was a little disturbed by the noise from the nearby road. But being able to step outside and walk through the beautiful streets of Fort Kochi made up for it. And after all, I reminded myself: I came to a clinic, not a resort. If you’re sensitive to noise like me, I recommend rooms 6 or 8 — they’re quieter. But the true heart of this place is its team — who, over three weeks, became like family. Because it’s so small, all guests gather at one communal table for meals. Like at home. Only here, every dish is lovingly prepared to match each person’s unique diet plan. The food is delicious (oh, that rice soup from Chechi ?). If you’re hungry outside meal times, you can knock on the kitchen door — they’ll always try to come up with something for you. Almost always, unless the doctor says otherwise ?. If you befriend Anita and her kitchen team, you may never want to leave Panchakarma! Yoga is an important part of the program. Maya, the teacher, is the Goddess of Shavasana. She can guide you into deep yoga nidra in five minutes, clearing and revitalizing your nervous system. I still listen to a secret recording I made of her class at bedtime — it helps calm my overthinking mind and guarantees restful sleep. Maya is the best. I love Maya! The therapy team, led by Dr. Manmohan, truly knows what they’re doing. I especially appreciated their flexible, responsive approach — they adapted both the timing and content of my treatments based on how I was feeling each day. I’m happy with the results and how I’ve felt since completing the program. I wasn’t expecting miracles. Life itself is already a miracle. Detox is detox. But the tangible results? Minus 3 kg, renewed energy, quitting smoking for good, and a rediscovered joy of life. What more could I ask for? I also want to highlight the excellent management. The property manager, Ananthu, went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable — even helping me scour half the fabric shops in Kochi to find the right material for a kimono. Ananthu has excellent taste! Maya, thank you for leading that mission ❤️. These three weeks in the petals of The Sacred Lotus were full of care, peace, and transformation. In the garden grow the most delicious green mangoes (a variety I’ll never remember), and a wild peacock named Chiku wanders freely. I miss everyone deeply and already look forward to my next detox!
