More about Aanandakosha Ayurveda Retreat

At Anandakosha, food is more than nourishment—it’s a key element of healing. Guided by Ayurvedic principles, the culinary team—led by Ayurveda food technologists and a resident chef—crafts a daily menu rooted in ancient wisdom and designed to restore balance and vitality.

Guests enjoy three wholesome vegetarian meals daily, accompanied by herbal juices mid-day and evening. The retreat follows a Tridoshic approach, using fresh fruits, vegetables, grains, and legumes that suit all body types. Meals are carefully prepared to include all six Rasas (tastes), promoting digestion and internal harmony.

Beyond the plate, guests are invited into the kitchen to learn Ayurvedic cooking techniques, gaining hands-on experience in mindful preparation and eating. The chef shares traditional Indian vegetarian recipes, encouraging guests to embrace a sustainable, balanced lifestyle beyond their stay.

Ingredients are locally sourced, organic, and seasonal—enhancing both nutrition and flavor. The communal dining area, “The Aananda Communal Dining,” offers a space for connection, where guests from across the world share food, conversation, and joy.

At Anandakosha, every meal is a step toward inner alignment, supporting not just the body, but the entire being in its journey toward well-being.

Aanandakosha Ayurveda Retreat is a serene and thoughtfully curated wellness sanctuary located just 15 minutes from Trivandrum International Airport, near the renowned Kovalam Beach in Kerala, India. Programs Offered

Panchakarma

A Panchakarma retreat is a deeply transformative Ayurvedic detox and healing program designed to eliminate accumulated toxins, restore internal balance, and rejuvenate the body and mind. Rooted in the ancient science of Ayurveda, Panchakarma meaning “five actions” is a medically guided process that works at a cellular level to remove toxins (Ama), strengthen digestion (Agni) and balance the three doshas: Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Unlike modern detox programs or wellness retreats that focus only on relaxation, a Panchakarma retreat is a structured therapeutic process aimed at long-term health, disease prevention and complete physiological reset. In today’s fast-paced lifestyle, the body is constantly exposed to stress, processed foods, environmental pollutants and irregular routines. These factors weaken digestion and lead to the accumulation of Ama, a toxic byproduct that obstructs bodily channels and disrupts normal functioning. Over time, this imbalance manifests as fatigue, weight gain, poor digestion, hormonal issues, joint pain, skin disorders, and mental stress. A Panchakarma retreat addresses these root causes by mobilising and eliminating toxins from deep tissues, allowing the body to restore its natural intelligence and healing capacity. A traditional Panchakarma treatment follows a carefully structured three-stage process to ensure safety and effectiveness. The first stage, known as preparation (Purva Karma), involves therapies such as Snehana (internal and external oiling) and Swedana (herbal steam therapy), which help loosen and mobilise toxins from the tissues. The second stage, the main detox phase (Pradhana Karma), includes specialised treatments such as Virechana (therapeutic purgation), Basti (medicated enemas), Nasya (nasal detox), and in specific cases, Vamana or Raktamokshana. These therapies are selected based on individual diagnosis and are performed under the supervision of qualified Ayurvedic doctors. The final stage, rejuvenation (Paschat Karma), focuses on restoring strength, rebuilding immunity, and stabilising the body through herbal medicines, a specialised Ayurvedic diet, and lifestyle guidance. A Panchakarma retreat offers a wide range of benefits that go beyond physical detoxification. It improves digestion and metabolism, supports sustainable weight management, enhances immunity, reduces stress and anxiety, improves sleep quality, and promotes clearer skin and increased energy levels. One of the most profound effects of Panchakarma is its impact on mental clarity and emotional balance. As toxins are eliminated from the body, the nervous system becomes more stable, allowing the mind to shift from a state of stress to a state of calm and focus. Many individuals experience a deep sense of reset, both physically and mentally, after completing a Panchakarma program. When choosing a Panchakarma retreat, location plays a crucial role in the effectiveness of the treatment. A Panchakarma retreat in Kerala, India is widely considered the most authentic and effective option due to its strong Ayurvedic lineage, ideal tropical climate, and access to medicinal herbs. Kerala is home to highly trained BAMS-certified Ayurvedic doctors who follow classical treatment protocols, ensuring a medically accurate and personalised approach. The warm and humid climate of Kerala supports detoxification by opening the body’s channels, making treatments more effective compared to colder regions. For this reason, Kerala has become the global centre for authentic Panchakarma therapy. Across India, Panchakarma retreats are available in various formats, ranging from traditional Ayurvedic hospitals to luxury wellness resorts. While India offers a wide range of options, the quality and authenticity of treatment can vary significantly, making it important to choose centres that provide personalised care and medical supervision. A Panchakarma retreat in Sri Lanka offers a similar tropical environment and is emerging as a destination for Ayurvedic healing, often combining traditional therapies with a more relaxed retreat experience. Meanwhile, a Panchakarma retreat in Bali is popular for its scenic beauty and luxury wellness offerings, although treatments may be adapted and may not always follow classical Ayurvedic protocols as practised in India. A typical Panchakarma retreat includes an initial consultation with an Ayurvedic doctor, personalised treatment planning, daily therapies, herbal medications, and a specialised Ayurvedic diet designed to support detoxification. Many retreats also incorporate yoga, meditation, and lifestyle guidance to enhance overall well-being. The duration of a Panchakarma program can vary depending on individual health goals, with 7-day programs offering mild detox, 14-day programs providing moderate cleansing, and 21 to 28-day programs delivering deep detoxification and long-term healing benefits. For chronic conditions and deeper imbalances, longer programs are generally recommended. Choosing the right Panchakarma retreat is essential for achieving safe and effective results. A genuine retreat should offer qualified Ayurvedic doctors, personalised treatment protocols, daily medical supervision, authentic Panchakarma therapies, and a structured dietary plan. It is important to understand that Panchakarma is not a spa treatment or a relaxation package—it is a medical healing process rooted in Ayurvedic science. A Panchakarma retreat is ultimately an investment in long-term health and well-being. It is ideal for individuals seeking to address chronic health issues, improve digestion, reduce stress, enhance immunity, or simply reset the body and mind. By removing deep-rooted toxins and restoring balance, Panchakarma allows the body to function optimally and maintain a state of natural harmony. Whether you choose a Panchakarma retreat in Kerala, India, Sri Lanka, or Bali, the experience offers a powerful opportunity to reconnect with your health, restore vitality, and experience true holistic healing.

This was my third time spending three weeks at Aanandakosha with Elisabeth, and once again, it was an amazing experience. I did another Pantacamat tour, and I couldn’t be happier with how everything went. The room was cozy and comfortable, the food delicious and tailored to the treatments, and the care and attention from the team were truly exceptional. The doctors are professional, kind, and genuinely present, and the entire environment supports deep rest and healing. I left feeling light, clear, happy and full of energy. I’m genuinely grateful – and I’ll absolutely be returning. Highly recommended for anyone looking for real, lasting results.

Me and wife spent 21 days at the centre. It was alovely place with greenery all around . The staff was very friendly. I had sciatica and my wife had Parkinson's. I was told they could treat both . We were having 2 messages a day. I was having milk bath, hot oil bath ,message on knee, and shoulder . There was no path for wheelchair from the rooms. There was no heath and safety. I fell down twice. We still don't feel well . I have weakness in my legs. I am very unstable. I fell down twice ,once on the stairs and than again in the toilet .We will never go there again.

I stayed at Aanandakosha Ayurveda Retreat for 12 days in July-August'25. I was looking for a place to relax and rejuvenate while receiving treatments without the trapping of a regular commercial resort and Aanandakosha far exceeded my expectations. The place itself is warm and welcoming with a feeling of being at home. The room was very comfortable with a nice balcony looking out to the Arabian sea. The room had all things one needs for a comfortable stay including a desk and chair where I spend countless hours reading, most of the books borrowed from the inhouse library which has a gem of collection. The retreat is excellently run by Elizabeth, who towards the end of my stay there became more of friend. Dr. Maneesh was a class apart in terms of his knowledge and the patience he had in answering all my queries and doubts. He was superbly supported by Dr. Anju and their team of Sunitha and Sivaprasad who helped me with all the treatments. Chef Shiben's sattvic dishes were excellent and he was nice enough to conduct a cooking workshop for a few of us during the stay. The support team of Vishnu and Abhi were always there to help with anything that was needed during the stay. Elizabeth also arranged for a pick up and drop off to the retreat which was much appreciated. The retreat is a bit like at being at home where during meals all the residents come together to talk and share their stories and experiences. I made quite a few friends who hopefully will stay connected as we move through different life experiences. Though the treatment schedules are fixed to a large extent, there are still opportunities to step out and see some nearby places in Trivandrum and considering that the beach is pretty close by it's nice to step out once in a while. A big thank you to the Anandakosha team and staff for making my stay truly memorable! I came back truly relaxed and grounded!

I had the best time in Aanandakosha during my 14 day stay and have returned feeling rejuvenated and refreshed. Elizabeth Pk and Dr Maneesh are the best professionals in the field, ably supported by a highly trained staff, ever ready to please. My family and I couldn’t have been better looked after. The location is stunning, and being surrounded by nature in its myriad forms is also part of the healing. An excellent Ayurvedic retreat, I must thank Dr Anju for her kind attention, Suneetha and Beena for the best treatments and therapies, and Chef Sebin for the most delicious food, plus Vishnu, and Abhi among the support staff for catering to our every need. Particular thanks to Dr Maneesh for providing us with detailed and tailor made Ayurvedic medical care; and to Elizabeth for offering the perfect environment for personal/emotional/spiritual growth. We feel very well-looked after and hope to carry these principles forward in everyday life. Aanandakosha is not your run of the mill Ayurvedic retreat- highly recommended. Cannot wait to be back!
